In the heart of Hirkani jungles in north of Iran and near Anzali to Talesh road, there is a mosque called Espi Mazget. It has been a long time that this mosque was built and it is still there and shows the past periods of architecture history in a good way. Espi Mazget Mosque which is known as the oldest mosque in Gilan is located 22 km south of Talesh in Rezvanshahr. Based on the architecture of the mosque, the first foundations belonged to Zoroastrian fire temple in Sassanid dynasty. It was changed to a mosque in holly defense period with no change at all. This mosque had no altar. The prayers would use the inside porch as a place to keep fire and pray. The Archaeologists believe that the age of this mosque returns to 4th century according to the pieces of remained inscriptions. The locals call Espi Mazget Abdollahi mosque too. They believe that Abdollah Ibn Omar built this mosque. The word Espi in Taleshi language means white and Mazget means mosque. That is why they know Espi Mazget as the white mosque too that was most probably painted with lime to shine like a diamond. There are other materials used in this mosque such as bricks in the body and walls and clay in ceiling. According to the damages to this building, only some parts of northern and western porch are remained.
